- Not needed to start: the free plan has no time limit. Paid plans are per seat.
Pricing checked on Sep 20, 2026. Always confirm on the vendor's site.
Best for
- Small businesses that want a free place to track leads, deals and follow-up tasks, and that fit within two users and 1,000 contacts
- Businesses that may later add marketing, sales or service tools from the same vendor, since HubSpot says free accounts upgrade without data migration
Not ideal for
- Trades businesses that need dispatch, job scheduling and on-site invoicing in the same system; tools built for field service cover that
- Teams of more than two people that want to stay on the free plan
Key features
- Contact management, deal pipelines and tasks (free)
- Email tracking and email templates (free, with limits reported by reviewers)
- CRM import, a reporting dashboard and a meeting scheduler (free)
- Live chat, a chatbot builder and payment links (free, per HubSpot's Free CRM page)
- More than 1,000 third-party integrations (as stated by an independent review)
Verdict
Based on HubSpot's own pages and independent reviews, its free CRM is a low-risk place for a small business to start tracking leads and follow-ups, as long as two users and 1,000 contacts is enough. Costs rise on paid plans, and it is a general CRM rather than field service software. We haven't used it ourselves, so this verdict rests on the sources cited, not on our own testing.

How this review was researched
What the free plan includes
From public documentation
According to HubSpot's Free CRM page, the free CRM includes contact management, deal pipelines, tasks and activities, CRM import, a reporting dashboard, email tracking and email templates, a meeting scheduler, live chat, a chatbot builder, an AI assistant and payment links. HubSpot states the free plan is limited to "up to two users, 1,000 contacts, and no limits on customer data", and says a free account can be upgraded to Starter, Professional or Enterprise plans "with no disruption, no data migration". Paid tiers add features such as required fields, permission sets, AI customer agents and custom objects.

What independent reviewers found
From independent reviews
crm.org (review by Sejla Hajric, last updated 14 May 2026) says its reviewer used the platform, quoting "Upon logging in for the first time, we were greeted with a user guide". It calls HubSpot user-friendly and suitable for all skill levels, praises the free-forever plan and the more than 1,000 third-party integrations, and lists high costs for premium features, limited customisation on the free plan and A/B testing restricted to expensive tiers as drawbacks. It reports these free-plan limits: a maximum of two users, three email templates, five documents per account and 200 email tracking notifications a month. Its verdict is that HubSpot suits small to medium-sized businesses wanting an integrated sales, marketing and customer service platform without a steep learning curve, and is not suited to enterprises needing extensive customisation or tight-budget companies. It also says HubSpot is not ideal for niche industries with specialised needs.
Forbes Advisor describes the forever-free plan as one reason HubSpot CRM is a great option for small businesses, and says the paid tiers get expensive quickly but unlock powerful AI-driven data tools and automation.
A caution about free-plan numbers
Published reviews don't agree on the free plan's limits: some pages that came up when we searched state different numbers of users or contacts from the ones HubSpot lists. Vendors change their plans, and older reviews go stale. That's why we quote HubSpot's own page for the limits and attribute anything else to the reviewer who reported it. Check HubSpot's current page before relying on any number.
Who HubSpot CRM suits
From the sources above, HubSpot's free CRM fits a small business that wants a simple, free system for contacts, deals and follow-up tasks, has a small team, and may later grow into HubSpot's paid tools.
If you can't stay within two users and 1,000 contacts, you'll be looking at paid, per-seat plans, so price them before you commit. Our CRM ROI calculator shows whether a paid plan would pay for itself.
Who it doesn't suit
HubSpot is a general sales and marketing CRM. Businesses that send people to job sites usually also need scheduling, dispatch, quoting and invoicing tied to each job, which field service platforms are built for. Compare Jobber and Housecall Pro, and read HubSpot for plumbers for how far a general CRM can be stretched.
Before you commit
- Try the free plan with your real contacts and a real pipeline.

Frequently asked questions
Is HubSpot CRM really free?
HubSpot's pricing page describes a free plan with no time limit and no credit card required. Its free CRM page lists up to two users and 1,000 contacts. Paid plans add more, and they are priced per seat.
What are the main limits of the free plan?
HubSpot lists two users and 1,000 contacts. The independent reviewer crm.org also reports limits on email templates, documents and email tracking notifications, and limited customisation of workflows and reports. Plans change, so confirm current limits on HubSpot's own page.
Is HubSpot a good CRM for plumbers or other trades?
HubSpot is a general sales and marketing CRM, not field service software, so it doesn't handle dispatch and job scheduling the way tools built for trades do. One independent reviewer also says it is not ideal for niche industries with specialised needs. Our plumbers article goes into what to add.
Did SmallBizTech test HubSpot itself?
No. This review is based on HubSpot's own documentation and pricing pages and on published independent reviews, each named and linked below. We haven't used a HubSpot account ourselves and don't describe an experience we haven't had.
